Let me just say that I am SO stoked that the local newspaper placed an article on the dangers of “The Brazilian” as headline news ( Hair-style cancer shock. Cape Times. Wed, 23. 2014). The article states research conducted by the University of Cape Town’s dermatology division revealed that products used in South Africa have up to seven times the legal limit of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde and some of the other chemicals used in these blowouts can cause nosebleeds, burning eyes, skin irritations and even asthma attacks. I think what shocked me the most was reading that some products claiming to be “formaldehyde free” were in fact not.
I have been saying this for YEARS! Actually, the dangers of the Brazilian blowout has been making waves for years. Of course, most people would absolutely ignore this article because hey – straight hair is straight hair! Right? Here’s to hoping that the madness will end and that we’ll be happy with who we are, as we are?!

And just yesterday I commented on refusing a Brazilian!
If it's that good why put a mask. Proof enough it's risky for your life.
I always knew the Brazilian couldn't be legit. *Thinking back to the days when hairdressers tried to sell me a Brazilian by saying how much more 'managable' it would make my hair* What non-sense! I'm just happy I refused every single time. Thanks for this piece Mandy.
I think we all went through that. I despise going to local salons who try to force chemicals on you.
