Last month I received an invitation to attend the first ever Bella Donna Experience. The event is the brainchild of African Secret’s Stacey Jane Smith and Good Hope FM’s Tarryn “TK” Trussell. Let me tell you, I was blown away when I saw the black and white invitation. I had a feeling that it was going to be an amazing experience – I was not wrong.

The event was held on Sunday, 2 November, at the very elegant Pearl Spoon in Claremont. We were greeted with either a glass of Bain’s whisky or a flute of champagne on arrival (happy faces all around). What I loved about the entire set up is that it wasn’t ye ole typical ladies gathering – you know… scones, tea, chatter. No, this was educational. Stacey and TK placed us into groups of 4 or 5 and we were had to learn a bit about each other. Let me just say this, respect to the ladies out there juggling a family and living in a man’s world #womenrock!
Each group had the opportunity to visit and learn from different sponsors.
Our first stop was Common Thread which is a female clothing line based and manufactured in Cape Town. I learnt that I am a pear shape and accentuating my waist was beneficial to my physique (who knew).
Ferial and Feroza, owners of Common Thread. Oooh yes! I was the lucky winner of one of their gorgeous creations |

We then moved on to locally produced Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky. I am not going to say much about this except that Bain’s is South Africa’s first single grain whisky and that I am now a self-proclaimed Bain’s ambassador. Bain’s, if you see this give me a call, let’s talk business #justsaying.
Head To Toe Make-Up and Hair Styling School I have to admit that I was really excited about this stop. When I found out that the school was a sponsor, I immediately booked my ticket. H2T will be exhibiting at the Cape Town Hair and Beauty Show, so I was really looking forward to meeting the school’s director, Aliki – yet another amazing woman. I learnt the art of contouring – ok, I haven’t mastered it yet, but I am learning.
The phenomenal chef at Pearl Spoon, Shane, served up some tantalizing finger foods during each session. My mouth waters at the thought of his cottage cheese, salmon, grapefruit and ginger blini. Talk about a mouthgasm. I will be going back ASAP.
After networking, exchanging business cards, photo’s and hugs, my time at the Bella Donna Experience ended all to soon. We were each given a goodie bag filled with bath salts, Essence make up, a tot of Bain’s whisky (yay!) and a yummy macaroon from Pearl Spoon (seriously, mouthgasm) among other treats.
