Curls & Cocktails 2017 v1

Hello Lovelies! What a weekend it’s been! No, actually, it has been a crazy few weeks. If you follow me everywhere you’ll know that Cape Town Naturally, the group I co-created with four other warrior women, hosted its second Curls & Cocktails event on Saturday 25 March.

Curls and Cocktails is a social gathering for natural haired beauties, those transitioning to natural hair and those thinking about it. It was organized after we realized that there was a need for naturals to come together to celebrate, learn, teach and meet each other. We started the first event last year with about 35 ladies in attendance. This year we had over 100 guests attend the event – not a bad start to the year.

Team Cape Town Naturally – Simone Thomas, Eleanor Barkes, Kasuba Stuurman and Chantal De Kock

We were so honoured to have model and influencer, Justene Josias and actress, Kay Smith join us as our speakers.

Justene spoke about her journey with her hair, body and how she learnt to love herself for exactly who she was. She had me swallowing back my tears and pinching myself because her experiences mirrored mine. In fact, majority of the guests could relate to her journey.

                                                                                                                               The beautiful Kay Smith

I had initially asked Kay to speak about her experience on 7de Laan. What she gave us was so… soooo much more. Check out this video Marley Rose shared on the Cape Town Naturally Support Group to see what I mean:

MD of Style Studio, Grant Heynes, spoke about their business and surprised us by doing a few spot prizes and bringing along the CEO of Urban Therapy Twisted Sista, Randy Zeno. What an honour!

We had loads of giveaways on the evening including t-shirts from Haus Of Swag who gifted Cape Town Naturally with a brand new mascot. Meet Natural Naledi – YES! She eventually has a name thanks to Nadine who won our competition.

Take a look at a few more snaps of the event:

Yes, we had food too!

… and we ended the night with cupcakes from Hey! That’s My Cake
